The Beat Street film was celebrated and shown at Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture Saturday, October 20. Beat Street featured the New York City hip hop culture of the early 1980s; breakdancing, DJing, and graffiti. A panel discussion followed the film which included Harry Belafonte, DJ Kool Herc, Martha Diaz (community organizer, media producer, curator, and hip hop archivist), Vee Bravo (Education Director at TFI), Melly Mel, Lisa Cortes (Precious) and more!
